Janacek: Sinfonietta; Glagolitic Mass

This month’s Cover CD features two masterpieces by one of the most distinctively colourful voices of the early 20th century. Janácek’s shatteringly powerful Glagolitic Mass is conducted by the late Richard Hickox, to whom we pay tribute in an accompanying feature. Meanwhile, the strident, stirring Sinfonietta is performed by the BBC Philharmonic under Sir Charles Mackerras, one of the great conductors of Czech music of this, or any, era.
