In addition, Wagner's "Tannhäuser Overture". I was introduced to it at school when I was about 12. I was absolutely fascinated by this beautiful and powerful music. Many of my schoolmates were of the same opinion. We all said "Wow!". I continue to love it now after so many years, especially as wonderfully conducted by Sir Georg Solti. :)

Im a Secondary School Music Student, Ive just done a workshop at the local primary school so thought Id put my view across! We went through different styles of music , did some experimental compositions and then they listened to Peter and the Wolf. We asked them to draw what was happening in the story and I think that worked quite well. I would also say that Classical Music does not happen very much in schools these days. I did the workshop for a BTEC qualification (GCSE equiv) that I took purely because I had to have music on my timetable! You could get through this without reading (traditional notation) or writing a note of music. So perhaps its not what we play to school children but it actually being played to them at all.
